National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB)

NMPB is implementing the Central Sector Scheme on “Conservation, Development and Sustainable Management of Medicinal Plants” throughout the country. 152 projects have been approved for training programmes, seminars, and workshops (FY 2021-22 to 2025-26) with ₹1,186.91 lakh in financial assistance.

NMPB: Key Facts for Prelims

  • NMPB was set up in 2000 by the Government of India; nodal ministry is the Ministry of AYUSH.
  • Mandate: develop coordination mechanisms between various ministries, departments, and organisations for overall growth of the medicinal plants sector.
  • NMPB provides Quality Planting Material (QPM) to farmers through Regional-cum-Facilitation Centres (RCFCs), which also organise training on Good Agriculture Practices (GAPs) and Good Field Collection Practices (GFCPs).

Functions of NMPB

Conservation

Focuses on in-situ and ex-situ conservation of medicinal plants and aromatic species.

R&D & Awareness

Promotes R&D, capacity building, and awareness through Home and School Herbal Gardens.

IPR Protection

Encourages protection of patent rights and IPR related to medicinal plants.

Livelihood Linkages

Provides linkages with JFMCs, Panchayats, Van Panchayats, BMCs, and SHGs.

MIDH: The Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, providing financial assistance for cultivation of short-duration (non-perennial, non-tree) medicinal plants.

Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY)

Minister of State for Agriculture Ramnath Thakur provided details of PMKSY in a written reply in Lok Sabha on July 21, 2026. Central Assistance is provided to states for irrigation potential creation, command area development, and on-farm development activities.

PMKSY: Key Facts for Prelims

Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana (PMDDKY)

Bharat Taxi Service

Union Minister for Home and Cooperation Amit Shah provided details of Bharat Taxi in a written reply in Lok Sabha on July 21, 2026. Bharat Taxi is currently operational in Delhi-NCR and Gujarat.

Bharat Taxi: Key Facts for Prelims

  • Bharat Taxi is a cooperative-based ride-hailing platform operated by Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited, providing a transparent, driver-owned mobility service under the cooperative model.
  • The platform comprises three components: Sarathi (Driver) Application, Passenger Application, and Backend Management System. Drivers on the platform are called “Sarathis.”

Cooperative Model: Key Concepts

  • A cooperative is a member-owned and democratically controlled enterprise where profits are distributed among members rather than external shareholders.
  • In Bharat Taxi, drivers (Sarathis) are the cooperative members, giving them ownership and control over the platform.
  • Cooperatives in India are governed by the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 2002 (for multi-state entities) or respective State Cooperative Acts; the Ministry of Cooperation was created in 2021 to give a separate administrative focus to the sector.

Regulatory Framework

  • Before rollout in any state, Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited obtains licences, registrations, permissions, and statutory approvals.
  • Consultations are undertaken with State Transport Departments, Urban Local Bodies/Municipal Authorities, and State Departments of Cooperation; operations commence only after completion of all statutory and administrative formalities.

Operation Southern Readiness

Operation Southern Readiness 26-2, a four-day multinational maritime security training engagement, commenced at Southern Naval Command, Kochi on July 20, 2026 — marking the maiden conduct of this exercise in India and a milestone in Indian Navy-CMF engagement. A session by UNODC addressed maritime security threats in the Red Sea and Western Indian Ocean.

  • The exercise is conducted under the Indian Navy-led Combined Task Force 154 (CTF 154) in partnership with Combined Maritime Forces (CMF).
  • CTF 154 is CMF’s dedicated Training Task Force, presently commanded by the Indian Navy, focused on strengthening capacity, interoperability, and professional readiness of CMF Partner Nations.

Digital Lending Regulation in India

RBI operationalised a “Digital Lending Apps (DLAs)” directory on its website effective July 1, 2025, enabling customers to verify association of DLAs with RBI-regulated entities. MeitY blocked 87 illegal loan lending applications under Section 69A of the IT Act, 2000.

RBI Digital Lending Directions 2025

  • RBI (Digital Lending) Directions, 2025 were issued on May 8, 2025, with detailed provisions on recovery, data privacy, and customer grievance redressal mechanisms.
  • Mandatory for Regulated Entities (REs), Lending Service Providers (LSPs), and Digital Lending Apps (DLAs).

Empowers the government to block public access to information on grounds of national security and public order.

IT Rules, 2025

The Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code Rules authorise sectoral regulators to issue blocking directions.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting launched the pilot phase of the “Gems of India” Challenge on July 21, 2026, to identify and promote grassroots digital creators across India. It is built upon MyWAVES, the citizen creator platform under WAVES OTT, and involves Prasar Bharati, My Bharat, and respective State and District Administrations.

MoS for Social Justice B.L. Verma provided details of AVYAY initiatives in a written reply in Lok Sabha on July 21, 2026. 49,81,380 assistive devices have been distributed among 9,23,071 senior citizens under the Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana (RVY).

GREAT Scheme: Key Facts

  • GREAT stands for Grant for Research and Entrepreneurship across Aspiring Innovators in Technical Textiles, launched in August 2023 to develop the startup ecosystem in technical textiles.
  • It has evolved under the Research, Development, and Innovation Component of the National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM), supporting entrepreneurs and start-ups for functional prototypes or commercialisation of technical textile technologies.
  • Funding: grant-in-aid of up to ₹50 lakh for up to 18 months.
