| CSE 2023 | 24 Sep 2023 | 8 Dec 2023 | ~75 days |
| CSE 2024 | 29 Sep 2024 | 9 Dec 2024 | ~71 days |

How to Check the UPSC Mains Result 2026
- Step 1: Go to the official website, upsc.gov.in.
- Step 2: Open Examination → Results → Written Results (the link also appears under What’s New).
- Step 3: Click “Written Result: Civil Services (Main) Examination, 2026”.
- Step 4: Open the PDF and press Ctrl + F to search your roll number.
- Step 5: Download and save the PDF; you will need your roll number for DAF-II and the e-summon letter.
What the Result PDF Contains (and What It Does Not)
Included
Roll numbers of candidates who qualified for the Personality Test. In 2025 UPSC also released a name-wise list.
Not included
Marks, cut-offs and rank. Mark sheets come only after the final result, and cut-offs with the final result.
After the Result: DAF-II and the Interview
DAF-II (Detailed Application Form II)
- Who fills it: Only candidates who qualify the Mains.
- What it asks: Order of service and cadre preference, plus uploads of certificates (age, education, category, EWS, PwBD, as applicable).
- Window: Short, usually opening within days of the result. A missed or incomplete DAF-II can cost you your candidature.
- Tip: Fix your service preferences carefully; they decide allocation together with your rank.
Personality Test (Interview)
- Marks: 275. Final merit = Mains (1,750) + Interview (275) = 2,025 marks.
- Venue: UPSC, Dholpur House, Shahjahan Road, New Delhi.
- E-summon letter: Downloadable from the UPSC website once the schedule is released.
- Likely dates: In 2025 interviews began on 8 December, about four weeks after the result. Expect a similar start for 2026.
Interview Preparation: Start Now, Not After the Result
- Read your DAF-I closely: Most questions come from your name, home district, education, hobbies and work experience.
- Know your home state: Candidates from Odisha should be ready on Odisha’s economy, tribal welfare, mining, cyclone management, and current state initiatives. See our Odisha current affairs.
- Stay current: Follow national and international news daily through Strive Edge daily current affairs.
- Practise opinions: Prepare balanced views on live issues, not just facts.
- Take mock interviews: Two or three mocks help with clarity and calm; more than that can make answers sound rehearsed.
Frequently Asked Questions
When will the UPSC Mains Result 2026 be declared?
UPSC has not announced a date. The Mains ended on 30 August 2026. In the last three cycles the result came 71 to 75 days after the last paper, which points to the second week of November 2026, though it may come as late as early December.
Where can I check the UPSC Mains Result 2026?
On upsc.gov.in, under Examination → Results → Written Results. The result is a PDF of roll numbers of candidates who qualified for the Personality Test.
Will the Mains result show my marks?
No. The Mains result lists only roll numbers (UPSC also issued a name-wise list in 2025). Marks are released only after the final result.
What is DAF-II?
DAF-II is the second Detailed Application Form, filled online only by candidates who qualify the Mains. It records service and cadre preferences and asks you to upload supporting documents. The window opens shortly after the result and is short, so keep documents ready.
When will the UPSC CSE 2026 interviews be held?
UPSC has not released the schedule. In the 2025 cycle, the result came on 11 November 2025 and interviews began on 8 December 2025, so 2026 interviews are likely to start around December 2026 and run into early 2027.
How many candidates will qualify for the interview?
Usually about 2.5 to 3 times the number of vacancies. In 2025, 2,736 candidates were called for the Personality Test.
