Global Tiger Day 2026
Environment
Global Tiger Day is observed on July 29 every year. PM Modi noted that India is home to almost 70% of the global tiger population, and reaffirmed India’s commitment to science-based conservation, community participation, and sustainable development.
International Tiger Conservation
- Global Tiger Day was established at the Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit, 2010, which set the TX2 goal to double global tiger numbers by 2022.
- 13 tiger range countries participate in international tiger conservation efforts; CITES Appendix I gives tigers the highest protection, banning commercial trade.

Tiger Conservation in India
- The Royal Bengal Tiger is India’s National Animal; Project Tiger was launched in 1973, and India now has 55 tiger reserves.
- The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) oversees conservation under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972; the tiger census is conducted every four years using camera traps and pugmark tracking.
- As per the 2022 census, India’s tiger population stands at 3,682, the highest ever recorded.

NIPUN Bharat Mission
Education
Minister of State for Education Sukanta Majumdar informed the Rajya Sabha that, as of July 2026, 22 states and UTs have achieved NIPUN status in at least one grade.
NIPUN Bharat: Key Facts
- NIPUN stands for National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy, launched in July 2021 under the Ministry of Education.
- Objective: ensure children achieve Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) by the end of Grade 3 (age 8–9), implemented through the Samagra Shiksha scheme.
- NCERT develops FLN learning materials and teacher training content; NIPUN Lakshya defines specific competencies for each grade (1, 2 and 3).

- PARAKH: assessment body under NCERT monitoring FLN outcomes.

Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) Batteries

Overview and Key Facts
- Advanced Chemistry Cells (ACCs) are new-generation energy storage technologies that store electrical energy electrochemically or chemically — critical for EVs, grid storage, consumer electronics and renewable energy integration.
- The ACC PLI Scheme was approved in May 2021 with an outlay of ₹18,100 crore to develop 50 GWh of domestic manufacturing capacity.

Working Principle & Applications
- ACCs work on the electrochemical principle of oxidation-reduction (redox) reactions — lithium ions move between the cathode and anode through the electrolyte during charge/discharge.
- Key applications: EV traction motors, grid-scale storage of solar/wind energy, consumer electronics, defence equipment (drones, UAVs), and satellite power storage during eclipse periods.

DAANVEER Initiative
Governance
DAANVEER was launched by Vivek Bharadwaj, Secretary, Ministry of Panchayati Raj, in New Delhi on 29 July 2026, developed in collaboration with NIC (National Informatics Centre) and DigiHaat.
Key Facts
- DAANVEER is a citizen participation initiative, under the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, to strengthen the digital infrastructure of Gram Panchayats across India — tagline: “Give Back to Your Village.”
- It is entirely voluntary and accessible through the Meri Panchayat mobile application; India has nearly 2.5 lakh Gram Panchayats forming the foundation of grassroots democracy.
Key Platform Features
- Citizens and organisations can contribute standardised, quality-verified computer bundles to eligible Gram Panchayats, integrating Meri Panchayat with the DigiHaat marketplace for pre-approved bundles.
- Bundles are mapped to state-specific technical specifications with auto-populated delivery details; donors can track contributions from dispatch to installation and receive a digital certificate of appreciation.
- Builds on the Ministry’s digital ecosystem — e-GramSwaraj, Meri Panchayat, Sabha Saar, AuditOnline and Gram Manchitra — and is also accessible to the Indian diaspora to contribute to their native Gram Panchayats.
