Subject Priorities Based on Recent Papers
- High weight: Polity, Environment and Ecology, Economy, and current affairs linked to them.
- Steady weight: Modern History, Geography (India and world, with maps), Science and Technology.
- Unpredictable: Ancient and Medieval History, Art and Culture; cover the basics well rather than going very deep.
- Check the trend yourself: Sort the last ten years of Prelims papers by subject.
Test Strategy
- Sectional tests after each subject from November to February.
- Full-length tests every week from March, then two or three a week in April.
- Analyse every test: Spend as long on analysis as on the test. Note why each wrong answer was wrong.
- Guessing rule: Attempt a question if you can eliminate two options; avoid blind guesses because of negative marking.
- Target: 100+ in GS mocks and 90+ in CSAT mocks gives a safe margin over recent cut-offs (General: 92.66 in 2025).
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Ignoring CSAT: Many strong GS candidates fail CSAT. Practise from now, not in May.
- Too many sources: Stick to one book per subject and one current-affairs source.
- No revision: Without at least three revisions, facts will not stay for the exam.
- Skipping the form: Apply between 13 January and 2 February 2027, early in the window.
- Burnout: Take one half-day off each week and sleep well, especially in the last month.
