  • 12 semiconductor projects approved across 6 states; investment commitments exceeding β‚Ή1.64 lakh crore; 3 facilities have started commercial production.

World Circular Economy Forum (WCEF) 2026

News Context

  • WCEF 2026 is being held in Gandhinagar, Gujarat (September 15-18), themed “Circular Economy: Transition for People and Prosperity” β€” India’s first time hosting this forum in South Asia.

Key Facts for Prelims

  • Scale: 3,600+ stakeholders from 62 countries, 135 exhibitors; jointly organised by CPCB (India), Sitra (Finnish Innovation Fund), Government of Finland, MoEF&CC and the Government of Gujarat.
  • RECEIC (Resource Efficiency and Circular Economy Industry Coalition) was launched during India’s G20 Presidency; India’s BRICS Chairship places circular economy alongside sustainable lifestyles and climate adaptation.
  • Netherlands targets being “fully circular by 2050”; Finland targets keeping resource consumption below 2015 levels by 2035.
Exam trap: WCEF 2026 is NOT a G20 Presidency deliverable β€” it is a standalone recurring global forum, and this is only its first-ever South Asian edition.

Pension Sakhis Initiative

News Context

  • The Department of Rural Development (DoRD) and PFRDA signed an MoU to launch “Pension Sakhis” β€” community workers spreading pension awareness and retirement security in rural areas through the women-led SHG network under DAY-NRLM.

Key Facts for Prelims

  • Uses the existing SHG institutional architecture under DAY-NRLM β€” no new parallel network is created; targets SHG members, rural women and Lakhpati Didis lacking formal financial/retirement advice access.
  • Functions: awareness building, enrolment facilitation, and post-enrolment support; digital monitoring via DoRD’s LoKoS system and mobile/web tools.
  • MoU signed between Amit Shukla (Joint Secretary, DoRD) and Sumeet Kaur Kapoor (Executive Director, PFRDA), in the presence of Rohit Kansal (Secretary, DoRD).
Exam trap: Pension Sakhis are NOT a new, independently recruited cadre β€” they operate through the existing SHG network under DAY-NRLM, a key distinction for statement-based prelims questions.
